Community Events, Craft Workshops & Professional Practicums on the Business-End of Content Creation

Whenever possible, programs are free to Members and B/I/POC Creatives, and open to the general public on a pay-what-you-can basis. We charge admission to craft workshops in order to pay our Teaching Artists.

Ongoing Programs

LitArts RI hosts regular Member Mingles where writers, illustrators and podcasters can meet each other, browse the local author library, and learn about upcoming opportunities. Stop in for coffee and casual conversation with fellow creatives, stay to enjoy discounted coworking in quiet writing nooks.

Check our Events calendar above for the next gathering.

LitArts RI’s Advisory Committee invites Rhode Island creatives of color to a monthly B/I/POC Creatives Coffee Hour at LitArts RI. Meet other writers, illustrators and podcasters, share projects and find community and support for your creative work.

Check our Events calendar above for the next gathering.

LitArts RI’s annual workshop series invites writers to take a deep dive into literary craft with a local teaching artist.

Workshops are open to all levels of writers across various genres and mediums. You must be 18+ to attend. Check back in Fall 2024 for upcoming workshops.

Offered on a regular basis, LitArts RI's popular podcast trainings are an introduction to podcasting for anyone looking to launch a show. The class will provide a look at the steps to creating a podcast, from ideation and planning to creation and publishing. Participants will get hands on experience with audio equipment in the Podcast Studio.  (Alex Birch photo credit: Adrianne Mathiowetz)

LitArts RI writing groups meet regularly over Zoom or at our center in Providence. Each group is organized around a genre or interest area and has its own cadence and structure. Writing groups are for ages 18+. Details on current Writing Groups, and the form where you can sign up to be connected to the volunteer facilitator, can be found here.

Propose a Program

LitArts RI holds an open call for craft workshop proposals in the fall and spring of each year for the following term. Find program specifics, proposal form and compensation details here.

Partner event proposals are taken on a rolling basis, and we are always happy to hear from local creative professionals interested in sharing professional expertise outside of a writing workshop setting.

You may also hold a book launch or other promotional event with a partner bookstore at LitArts RI by purchasing our Author Event Package.
